It's seriously ALOT easier than it seems. If you really want to do some neat digi-art, try out one of these [link] for a relatively low-cost foray into painting with a computer. There's tutorials EVERYWHERE (google + youtube = protips).

If painting isn't your speed, you can always try inkscape.org (free btw) cause everyone loves vectors.
